Nathaniel Chu Weng Kuok is a versatile Macau-based string musician and cellist who performs on acoustic and carbon-fibre instruments. He is also experienced on the violin and viola, allowing him to work comfortably across solo, chamber and ensemble formats.
Nathaniel was formerly concertmaster of the University of Macau String Orchestra and currently serves as concertmaster of the Macau Philharmonic Association Chamber Orchestra. He is also active as a music educator and conductor, leading primary and secondary school string ensembles in Macau.
With extensive performance experience, Nathaniel has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player in classical concerts, cultural programmes, music festivals, theatre productions, dance performances, concerts and commercial recordings. His credits include performances for the Macau International Food City Carnival, the Macau International Film Festival, the Macau Arts Festival, the International Arts Festival of the Greater Bay Area, the Bavaria Art Week and major public and corporate events.
Nathaniel has also performed for large-scale productions including the Jiangsu Television New Year’s Eve Concert, the Global Chinese Music Awards ceremony and various music-theatre and arts-exchange projects. In 2019, he founded 442 Hz, an innovative music project that combines the natural sound of string instruments with contemporary elements and diverse musical styles.
Equally comfortable performing as a soloist, in a string quartet or alongside other musicians, Nathaniel brings refined musicianship, expressive interpretation and a polished stage presence to weddings, luxury hotels, corporate events, cultural programmes and special celebrations.
