Chakseng
Bassist
Macau
ChakSeng Lam is a Macau-based multi-instrumentalist and jazz musician whose artistry extends across double bass, saxophone, and flute. A graduate of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague on a prestigious Dutch Excellence full scholarship, ChakSeng brings conservatory-level musicianship and deep harmonic understanding to every performance.
His command of the double bass is rooted in a thorough knowledge of jazz harmony, rhythm, and ensemble dynamics — honed through years of performing alongside world-class musicians including Alex Sipiagin, Eric Alexander, Vincent Herring, and Stefan Karlsson. Whether anchoring a trio, walking through standards, or driving a Latin groove, ChakSeng delivers a warm, authoritative tone with impeccable time.
His performances have taken him across Western Europe, Southeast Asia, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. As a member of the New Lingnan Quartet, he released the album A Mobile Courtyard (2019), and recorded his debut album in 2022 with acclaimed Dutch jazz veterans Eric Ineke and Rob van Bavel.
A versatile musician equally at home on bass, saxophone, or flute, ChakSeng is one of Macau's most sought-after instrumentalists for jazz, pop, Latin, and classical engagements.
